Travel in Portugal is relatively inexpensive for a European country and is rich in its palaces and cathedrals. Once called the eighth wonder of the world, Lisbon the capitol city has old and new sections, the old being what is left from the earthquake of 1755. Shore towns such as Nazare are reminders of the sea power past and the quaint palace town of Sintra could capture one's heart forever.

This was my first overseas trip. Renting a car, we drove up the coast and across the country to the Spanish border. Earlier that summer, I attended a workshop with Ralph Gibson. On these images, I experimented with the overexposure/development of film and printing with higher than "normal" contrast.
